The boys soccer team took on the Plainfield Central Wildcats in a hard fought battle that went all the way until the end on April 1st.

The game finished with Minooka Indians coming out with the close victory, 6-5.

The win did not come easy, though.

“Central has the ability to score quickly, but they also can give up numerous goals,” head coach Nate Spriggs said. “We wanted to score first, set the tone of the game, and try to take control of the game.”

In this victory, the leadership of the seniors showed out. This year, the boys soccer team is led by seniors Michael Ruettiger, Manny Campuzano, Jake Zasada, Grayson DeRobertis, Esteban Torres, Braden Hall, Ben Joder, and Kian Kennedy.

“The seniors are the backbone of any team,” Spriggs said. “They provide guidance and leadership to the others and are an extension of the coaching staff on the field. We are not only fortunate that our seniors are great young men, but are very skilled soccer players as well.”

This game was important for the seniors. One of the last games in these players’ careers, winning this game really showed how much this program meant to them, and what they mean to to the program.

“As a senior, every game felt like my last,” senior Jake Zasada said. “The game against Central was great. A close game against a rival team is always one to look forward to.”

After the season, the team ended with a record of 7-6, as well as Ben Joder, Zac Monnett, Logan Kalafut, and Manny Campuzano earning All-Conference honors.
