Boys bowling competes at state

The Minooka boys varsity bowling team is competing at the IHSA state finals this weekend after coming in third at regionals and then winning sectionals with a team score of 6529.

“I think they did really good as a team averaging 1,088 pins for all the games. It’s a good spot to be in,” senior Evan Hartke said.

The boys have a lot of confidence going into state. Ryan McKay was their leading bowler at sectionals with a total of 1,326 and 8th place individual finish.

Junior Ryan Franzen placed 10th individually with a total score of 1,323.

“I think we’ll need a lot of consistency. We gotta make the simple shots and have everyone on the top of their game. We gotta be mentally prepared and make sure the simple stuff happen,” Franzen said.

The boys compete at St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon this weekend to try and bring home the title that they barely missed out on last year when they finished second.

“If we repeat what we did at sectionals, we’ll have a really good chance,” head coach Derrick Rapsky said.
