The excitement of an overtime game in basketball is unmatched, until you go into a double overtime game.

On Jan. 9, the freshman girls basketball team played in a double overtime game against a solid Plainfield East team.

“The double-overtime win against Plainfield East was definitely full of adrenaline,” coach Tracy Kwasny said. “My heart kept feeling like it was coming out of my chest a few times throughout the game! Many of our girls were able to play and all contributed to the win in some way or another.”

According to point guard Kylie Loomis, the game was a crazy one. Both team’s parents were yelling at the refs and players. With the game being away for Minooka, the pressure was high and the room for error was close to none.

“Free throws were a big factor in how we won, when the buzzer went off, it was immediate relief on all of us,” Loomis said.

Near the end of the fourth quarter, Kaitlyn Lavezzi hit two big free throws to tie the game and eventually go into overtime, only later in overtime for her and Loomis to hit more free throws to secure the win.

The girls’ next game is on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at home against West Aurora at 5 p.m.
