For the last three weeks, the Minooka boys cross country team has been on the road.  They finished 1st, 7th, and 7th, and now they come home for the first time this year.

Saturday is the Minooka Flight Invitational.  It starts at 8:30 a.m. at Channahon Community Park.

The format of this race is different than most meets. The 7th man will run against other teams’ number 7s, followed by a race for those that are number 6. It keeps carrying on like that through the remaining top five runners.

“There is going to be great competition and everyone should definitely come out and watch it,” head coach Kevin Gummerson said.

The Flight Invitational includes teams from Batavia, Bolingbrook, Conant, El Paso-Gridley, Hoffman Estates, Homewood-Flossmoor, Huntley, Lincoln-Way Central, Lockport, Lyons Township, Maine South, Minooka, Moline, Plainfield North, Waubonsie Valley, Willowbrook, and Yorkville.

Running in the boys top flight is scheduled to be senior Jason Hoffman.

“Hoffman is definitely helping our team and doing great, and he ran his best meet ever last Saturday with a time of 15:00,” Gummerson said.

Minooka’s cross country team is also having a pasta dinner the night before so they all can have a good meal for their big meet.

“The night before is very important to get a good night sleep, eat at normal times, and hydrate,” junior Vincent Van Eck said.

Both the Minooka boys and the girls teams will race at the Flight on Saturday.
