As the 2019 Minooka football season nears, the Indians are looking to wow the fans both with their success and new field.

The Indians are coming off an impressive 7-3 season that included a playoff berth with 18 returning starters along with new facilities for the upcoming season.

“The team goals are SPC champions, state 8A champions and a team GPA of 3.00 or higher,” head coach John Belskis said.

Senior captain Seth Lehr is excited for the upcoming season.

“We have worked very hard to prepare for the upcoming season,” Lehr said.

This year with the addition of Yorkville and West Aurora, the SPC has been split into 2 divisions (East and West). Minooka will compete in the West division with the two new teams, Plainfield North, Oswego, and Oswego East.

“The only difference is that they wear a different colored jersey, we will still continue to work as hard as we always do,” Belskis said.

Senior Trent Hudak said that he cannot wait until the first game against Joliet West because he has been working hard offensively and defensively to prove himself.

“I think we have a good chance at achieving our goals because we as a team have worked day in and day out to live up to our potential,” senior starter Steven Gonzalez said.

MCHS will host its home games on artificial turf for the first time this season.  Construction began on the field in early July and slated to be completed shortly before the first kickoff.

Minooka begins its season at home against Joliet West on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.
