The MCHS girls varsity tennis team got their first win of the season last Thursday against Bolingbrook, 7-0.

It was a strong start for a team that is coming off a 10-1 year in 2018 where they went 7-1 in conference play.  Last year, they played matches away because the tennis courts were being redone. This year, they have brand-new courts and a lot to look forward to.  The Bolingbrook victory was the first on those courts.

The team has a few returning players including junior Isabelle Figarelli who qualified for state last year playing No. 1 doubles.  Senior Mckenna O’Donnell is also returning and is hoping to move up to No. 1 doubles this year.

“Annabelle Siegel is returning to the No. 1 singles position after placing second  in sectionals last year qualifying for the state tournament,” head coach Julia Easter said.

Siegel, a sophomore, won three matches last year at state, a school record.

“We have a young team that is so excited to play tennis on our new courts,” Easter said.

The girls next match is Aug. 29 at Plainfield North.
