On April 2, the freshman Minooka Indians, led by coach Matt Shanahan, took on the Joliet Catholic Academy Hilltoppers. The Indians fell 5-3.

It is always exciting playing against a baseball program like Joliet Catholic. We have a really good rivalry with them,” Shanahan, said. “Every time we play them it is always a close and exciting game.”

The game was competitive between the two teams.

“The pitching was real good,” Lucas Mcmillin, freshman, said.

One of the biggest problems the Minooka had was offensively.

“We need to swing the bats more,” Ivan Dahlberg, freshman, said.

To add in, leaving runners on base was a big problem for them.

“We have struggled to bring runners in. One thing that we need to be improving on as a team is getting the big hits when they are needed,” Shanahan said.

The Indians swung the bats more towards the later innings and it showed how well they could do. The Indians came up with 3 runs in the last inning alone, but came up just short.

The Indians have improved with their game since the beginning of the season.

Our team has really improved our at bats over last few games,” Shanahan said.

Even though they lost this game, the Indians expect better things to come.

“We’ll have our best baseball by next week,” Dahlberg, said.
