3 new movies to get you through winter


Captain Marvel arrives in theaters March 8.

After not even one month into the new year, Hollywood has already proved that 2019 is going to be an exciting year for movies. Though many of these long-awaited movies will have to be held onto until the summer, several movies being released in the next two months show promise.


The Prodigy (R)

After Sarah (Taylor Schilling), a young mother, notices odd behavior in her son Miles (Jackson Robert Scott), she believes an evil, supernatural force has taken over his body. Fearing Miles is a danger to his family, Sarah must choose between her maternal instinct and the need to figure out who or what is causing her son’s change. After taking him to a therapist, Sarah has to look into the past to find the answers that she needs. With Jackson Robert Scott (It) being no stranger to horror films and up-and-coming horror director Nicholas McCarthy taking on The Prodigy, it is sure to be a hit. It arrived on theaters Feb. 7.


The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (PG)

Five years after the events of The Lego Movie, invaders have turned the town of Bricksburg into an apocalyptic wasteland. While his friends try to cope with the change, Emmet (Chris Pratt) remains optimistic and accidently gets the attention of General Sweet Mayhem (Stephanie Beatriz). Mayhem them captures Emmet’s friends and brings them to a shapeshifter who has plans to take over the universe. Emmet teams up with Rex Dangervest in order to rescue his friends. With Chris Pratt returning as Emmet and the addition of familiar characters from the DC and Marvel universe, this second film of the series is bound to be successful. It was released on Feb. 8.


Captain Marvel (PG-13)

Set in the 1990s, Marvel’s Captain Marvel explores a time before the superheroes of today, like Captain America and Iron Man, were in the picture. This previously unseen period of the Marvel Universe’s history follows Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) as she becomes the universe’s newest and strongest hero. When a war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers and a small group of allies find themselves in the middle of this battle. Fans of the Marvel films have been waiting for this new addition for quite a while, and according to the already positive reviews, it is going to be worth the wait. Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8.
