Even though the Minooka boys bowling team took second in the SPC tournament, they still came out as conference champions.

On Jan. 5, the Indians traveled to Echo Lanes for the SPC conference meet. This was the biggest test yet for the Indians, and they finished behind Plainfield South.

“I feel like we could of done a little better. We missed some spares as a team which cost us, but overall it was a good tournament,” Dalton Pickett, junior, said.

Minooka had three bowlers in the Top 5. This included Tim Frankes, who came in second; Efrain Soto, who came in third; and Brandon Caruso, who came in fifth.

But it was not enough to secure first place in the tournament.

“I think overall we did pretty solid. Still not what were capable of doing, but definitely headed in the right direction,” Caruso, freshman, said.

Because the boys beat so many of their conference opponents in dual matches throughout the season, they had accumulated enough points to combine with their tournament performance to win the overall SPC championship.

Head coach Derrick Rapsky was proud that Minooka ended up winning the conference championship.

“Our expectation this year was to win conference, and we won. I’m proud of the boys, they deserve it,” Rapsky said.
