With the NBA season coming up, so does the date of the highly anticipated release of NBA 2K18. NBA 2K has been the first choice video gamers play when it comes to basketball. 2K has only one competitor, and it is NBA Live, but Live doesn’t really compete with 2k. Since 2k11, 2k has sold over 5 millions copies ever since then, while Live hasn’t sold over 2 million copies since NBA Live 09.

2K has recently released some screenshots of players ratings. Notable players they released were LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Steph Curry, Paul George, Karl-Anthony Towns, Giannis Antetokounmpo, along with 46 other NBA players.

As 2k releases these screenshots, controversy always arises with the ratings. The biggest controversy of the ratings was Derrick Rose, point guard of the New York Knicks, who was rated a 78 overall. Many people of the 2k community raised their eyebrows to the rating.

“D Rose should have at least gotten a 81 overall,” Jalen Bruce, junior, said.

Rose averaged 18 points with four assists and a player efficiency rating of 17.05, while shooting 47 percent from the field and shooting 21 percent from three.

“That rating is too low for him,” Jaedon Johnson, junior, said.

Jae Crowder, small forward for the Boston Celtics, and D’Angelo Russell, point guard for the Brooklyn Nets, received a higher rating than Rose. Crowder and Russell both received an 80 overall. Crowder averaged 14 points with six rebounds and a player efficiency rating of 14.99, while shooting 46 percent from the field and 39 percent from three. Russell averaged 15 points with five assists and a player efficiency of 15.36, while shooting 40 percent from the field and 35 percent from three.

On the cover of 2k18 is the Cavaliers young superstar Kyrie Irving. 2k faced heavy controversy after rating Irving a 90 overall. Irving averaged 25 points with six assists and a player efficiency of 23.09, while shooting 47 percent from the field and 40 percent from three. Irving posted career highs in Points, field goal percentage, field goals made, games played, and free-throw percentage.

2K has announced they have added 16 new historic teams to the “Play Now” mode. They have also added a more in-depth “MyGM” mode. The new mode now have players interact with you as the GM, as the mode has a story for each team. 2K has also put in a mode a lot of players have wanted. They have added a draft mode called “Pack and Playoffs.” 2k18 has a chance to rebound from their lackluster 2k17 if everything goes as planned
